How are you generating the menu links?  If you can PM or email me some login details then I can have a look at your config and see if there's a fix.

Can i have your Email for further discussion?

/* Line 221 */
#TransMenu0
{
top: 150px;
position: absolute;
}

Your new submenu is #TransMenu1

You are using an old version of swmenu. Latest versions work better in all browsers. If you could delete all the custom menu css and use a more up to date swMenuFree it would be better.

Any thoughts on this gratefully received!

Find this CSS:

#menu1, #menu2, #menu3, #menu4, #menu5, #menu6, #menu7
{
font-size: 17px;
padding-top: 0px;
padding-right: 28px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
padding-left: 28px;
}

and add #menu56 which is the css id of your new menu item. Alternatively you could also edit the menu.css file swMenu uses and add the CSS to the top menu items so they automatically get this CSS when new menu items are added.

I just added a new menu item and it appears but does not pick up the formatting correctly

You can see the problem here:
http://www.edinburgh-capitals.com - menu item SNL and the dropdown underneath

Any thoughts on how I can get this to pick up the formatting of the rest of the menu?

Thanks in advance

Menu appears behind content. As per suggestions on another thread we changed the menu type to another menu (which didn't function properly) and tried to turn off force overlay (which would revert after we saved) Any suggestions?
